Strategic Playbook, I’m in business for myself, which means I own my own business.
This is a starting point and not a universal starting point
This is NOT the perfect course of action for every person, in business for themselves, who happens across this article.
This is ONE, of MANY possible, successful courses of action, available to you, today.
I share it with you in hopes of spurring you, to do.
I realize you’re going to take this template, then tune it to your specific situation, goals, and overall business context.
You have my blessing but remember I offer this example with out guarantee of any sort.
That said, I’m happy to help any way I can, email me questions, comments, and/or concerns using my [email protected] email address.
You likely have already settled on your reason this WON’T work in your context,
And you’re right. Correct, save your exceedingly consistent level of awesome performance.
Which is possible but requires even more effort than you’ll allow for at first blush.
The idea is simple, offer something worth valuable to your customer (worthy of their money + time investment)
Then give that valuable offer to them for free. For their signing up to your free membership, which grants them access.
This way, you begin with the logged in experience as the norm for your interactions with your audience. Starting as simple as 1, 2, 3.
1. Ready
- Save time and money with a modicum of strategic planning
- Free Membership w/ Free Course Attached
- You need bait, but bait your customer LOVES/NEEDS/WANTS
- I like to do a free course. Start it small, the three or four primary problems your customer faces coupled with your solution for each problem.
- Make it easy to gain access but you are teaching your customer a habit, of logging into your website when they want or need and think of you for the solution, aka for pain-killers, to take away her pain.
- You need bait, but bait your customer LOVES/NEEDS/WANTS
- Actions > Words
- All CTA’s on your site, of which there will be very FEW, each point to the Sales Landing Page for your Free Membership
2. Set
- Create, then deploy the content and the pages on your site
- Primary Pages
- Home
- Podcast Archive
- Contact
- Work with me
- Start with a simple contact form where they can get in touch with you, via email, within the context of working with you. So you can start to map and fulfill the experience for your paid customers today and, especially, in the future.

- Display (any) important links to students as buttons in this sidebar for user convenience

3. Go
- Attract Attention —> Audience —> Community —> Customer —> Repeat Customer —> Brand Ambassador
- Consistent Quality Content
- Have a process which will output your ideal piece of content
- You’re responsible for the end product but your contribution to the process should consist of your creation of the thought/idea/topic/knowledge/lesson and the process produces the finished product/version/iteration
- Document the first version of the process by beginning with your goal then reverse-engineering backward from that goal line to the starting point.
- Use the content to introduce yourself to your ideal customer
- Remember you start as strangers, they don’t know you and you don’t know them. But you catch their attention then draw them back to your office online, aka your website
