Hobbs' Notes

More of you need to see this video

November 6, 2016 By Jason Hobbs 2 Comments

On October 20, 2016 Candidio put on a free webinar.

I was there. I recorded my screen.

I edited this recording only so much as I chopped off the start and end of the recording. And exported it from Screenflow 6 as an MP4 file.

Then I uploaded it to Wistia and embedded it here for your edification.

Get the Chaptered version of this webinar from Candidio right here.

What do you do when people don't buy?

October 17, 2016 By Jason Hobbs Leave a Comment

This question was posed by Greg Hickman of System.ly fame as the foundational question for his video headlined as, Old Way vs New Way.

Old Way vs New Way – Webby Ask from Greg Hickman on Vimeo.

Greg uses the tools I don’t use, to do what I do with my tool of choice, Rainmaker Platform.

But Greg’s point is well taken. Most don’t do anything with the 80-90% of people that say no to their offer.

But what’s the question that comes BEFORE Greg’s question?

How do you make a cogent online offer of your good or service in 2017 and beyond?

Once your coordinated offer has been made, then, what do you do when people don’t buy?

I’ll take it a step further and purport that just as many really small business owners don’t even make a cogent offer online.

Cogent means your offer is clear, logical, and convincing.

Not that it must convince every pair of eyes trained upon your funnel.

Content Creation Procrastination

Man. I really wanted this to be a video.

I’m scripting this video. Which I’ll never shoot.

Weird and uncomfortable.

Aka my two word description of my creative process, with fear of some kind following close behind.

And yet the message doesn’t connect without words.

Words strung together to deliver glorious story for readers to obsess over.

I need to do audio. I need to do video.

Actually, I really, really want to start with video and then extract the audio.

Remember the point. And begin.

Your point is your point.

My point is to organize my tools, process, and support to help you market your business online.

And be profitable. Grow. Invest in people.

Invest in communities of people.

Donate to animal charities. (What? I have 3 dogs and a cat-pervisor)

But my direct communication between my business and my customers is through my website and any screen the customer wants to connect to the internet and look me up.

An Email Marketing Primer From Sonia Simone

February 5, 2016 By Jason Hobbs Leave a Comment

Email is baked into the DNA of the Rainmaker Platform, which happens to be the flagship product for Rainmaker Digital. Formerly Copyblogger Media.

Email Marketing: The Misunderstood Powerhouse

To pick up the free email marketing ebook, get started on one of the tracks in the Education tab over on Copyblogger

Sonia works through a list of topic offshoots from email marketing over the course of this thirty-one minute episode of Copyblogger.FM, formerly the Lede.

Joe Pulizi, On Traction Episode 18

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

I love Pulizzi (And Robert Rose too).

And Jay Acunzo gets mentioned in every blog post I write.

Because I know Jay is the MAN.

I’m currently reading Content, Inc.

I’ve really enjoyed the first few pages of the book and really like the framework Joe talks about for Content, Inc.

It makes sense and it works.

I’ve watched the process played out by Copyblogger over the past 5 or 6 years as their customer of multiple products.

So expect more about Content, Inc. as I get farther into the book. Then finish the book and then apply the learnings for growing my audience here.

Email in Rainmaker Platform

I’m increasingly excited about the email being baked into Rainmaker.

The autoresponders coupled with the ability to automatically send new blog posts to your list with no effort, is other worldly.

When the autoresponders hit the Rainmaker Labs is anyones guess.

Who knows how many months more will pass before the email comes out of Beta, which is what I’m really excited to see.

Content Tilt by Joe Pulizzi

February 4, 2016 By Jason Hobbs Leave a Comment

One Thing Is Killing Content Marketing and Everyone Is Ignoring It

Our job, as marketers, is not to create more content. It has never been about that. It’s about creating the minimum amount of content with the maximum amount of behavior change in our customers (hat tip to Robert Rose). For that to be possible, what you are creating has to be valuable, useful, compelling and, yes, different.
You can read the post for yourself to get Joe’s full story.

Content Inc the Book

So I’ve listened to a handful of episodes of Content Inc, the podcast. I’ve been a long time fan of CMI and Rainmaker Digital.

I never realized that Brian Clark wrote the forward to Content Inc OR that the Copyblogger story was featured in the book.

Let me know that and I’d have bought the book the first instant I had the money. As it was, I just got the book yesterday after listening to Joe on One Click Lindsey’s podcast as well as every episode of PNR’s This Old Marketing podcast.
