My thoughts on marketing a Rainmaker Version of Genesis Child Themes

May 22, 2017 By Jason Hobbs Leave a Comment

Despite what VSU business school taught me, I decided long ago that the 4 P’s of marketing were dead to me.

Old paradigm. NOT my jam.

Greg Ciotti taught me solution, access, value, and education in place of the 4 P’s.

So I began there.

Then iterated.

Up to and through the current version of my process (Version: 3.0):

  • Goal
  • Person
  • Problem
  • Solution
  • Access
  • Value
  • Education

Goal

Revenue, with the highest possible percentage flow through to profit.

Person

I used to call this customer but always focused on the person when explaining or strategizing. And they weren’t always customers in the most technical sense.

This person is a one person operator.

Frustrated with technology and the litany of options to evaluate.

She needs action not platitudes.

That’s forward momentum.

Which is hard enough to build without a shit ton of tech issues to wade through before focusing on her much needed momentum.

Problem

The difference between the developers/engineer’s web and the rest of us business people.

She needs a professional digital presence for her organization.

She still seeks a platform that delivers the power she needs without the daily distractions she loathes.

She needs her digital presence to do it’s job and stay out of her way day-to-day.

Make her look good in each individual interaction with her people.

Solution

Rainmaker Version of Genesis Child Themes

Personal Attention

RM Version is installed on your choice of Rainmaker Platform Provider (Retail, Reseller, My Value Added Reseller)

Installation followed by optional 15min hand off call. You and me, Skype video call is preferred, which is recorded using eCamm call recorder.

I take custom orders.

Access

Access is available from a single landing page on my site. The demo for the RM Version links to the landing page. As do widget area calls-to-action across my site. And other sites.

Value

Is in the details. This is a quick start including personal attention along with personalization of the quick start to your unique context.

It’s not merely a Pro version of a Genesis child theme.

Education

Educate their decision.

Then once they decide, is when the real work begins. Do not cut off the conversation after purchase, that is when our personal conversation kicks into high gear.

Then It’s All About Attention

Now we go through all that to say this, it’s all about attention.

You must be able to get attention. This is where I feel Rainmaker Platform sets itself apart. The ability to get out of your way so you build your audience day-to-day.

Your audience is how you keep the attention.

Keeping attention is always harder than keeping attention when dealing with people.

I’d sell RM Versions of Pro Genesis Child Themes as a premium product.

Based not on the code, although that is indeed premium as well.

Based on the experience for the end user.

Genesis Child themes were created to do-it-yourself

But Genesis child themes, and other WordPress themes, were largely created by developers to simplify the experience of doing it yourself. When you happen to be another developer or a designer.

I’m not a developer, nor a designer.

The Rainmaker version would align within this paradigm as the option for do it yourselfers who are defined by their business.

Not by their relation to code.

With this in mind, here are a few differentiators I’d bake into version 1 of the Rainmaker Versions:

  1. Installation Included, Retail RM Platform OR My value added reseller
  2. Comprehensive Solution, for your defined goal you have all the parts needed, for example, confidently build your email list from the first instant your site is online
